Following the incentives of their students, Brigitta and Tomas came together in 2004. Since then, they have danced, performed and explored together throughout the US, Europe, Russia, and Canada. Brigitta and Tomas continue to inspire each other as teachers and as dancers. They have a passion for the learning process, care and consideration for their students, and both contain a curiosity and desire to find new ways of transmitting tango.

Brigitta Winkler

Brigitta Winkler is a curious woman. She likes tradition and innovation and has been dancing tango for over 25 years. She currently divides her time between New York and Berlin. Her first stage appearance was in 1986 in Montreal’s Tangoshow. She teaches at festivals in the USA, Germany, Italy, and Russia. In 1987 she opened Tanzart in Berlin, which then became Phynixtanzt, her school in Berlin. She studied intensively in the early 1980s in Buenos Aires with Eduardo Arquimbau and Antonio Todaro among others. Brigitta studied Authentic Movement and incorporates a four-year program of Body Mind Centering into her approach. She is also the co-founder of the internationally acclaimed, all woman dance company, Tangomujer. Tomas Howlin

Born and brought up in Buenos Aires, Tomas shares his near 20 years of teaching and performing experience throughout Argentina, North America, and Europe. Having had the privilege to study and assist some of the master teachers of tango, young and old, Pepe Avellaneda, Pupi Castello, Jose Brahemcha, Gustavo Naveira, and Graciela Gonzalez, and through his understanding and dedication, Tomas has created a bridge linking traditional tango with the newer tendencies. Tomas has studied Martha Graham Dance Technique, The Alexander Technique, The Feldenkrais Method, and was trained at the University of Tango in Buenos Aires and taught for several years there. Tomas’ knowledge and pedagogy are unique and exceptional. He believes in a natural, relaxed, thoughtful, and skillful tango, one that is unique for each person.
